Ellie Brown
It is fascinating to watch Ellie at work. A ballerina in her spare time, delicate and feminine, it is a real contrast to see her in a cloud of dust, carving one of the strongest of all mediums with heavy tools.
This contrast is translated into her pieces, which are based on the female form. Ellie’s sculptures are graceful and elegant; they carry a quiet authority and an enduring presence. The surface of the stone is carefully carved to achieve a soft, body-like texture, while parts of the pieces still retain the marks of the chisel and mallet.
Ellie picked up her first chisel and mallet in 2018 and, since then, has exhibited in London, Cornwall and France. She also has a permanent public sculpture in the South of France.
