Elena Vasilantonaki
Elena is the only artist we work with who is based outside the UK. The shape and texture of her pieces offer a strong indication of both her location and the environment in which she works. Based in Athens, Elena gathers materials from sea rocks and beaches, creating a direct connection between her surroundings and her work.
Watching Elena at work is almost therapeutic. Her gestures are graceful and deliberate, reflecting her deep connection to nature, which, alongside history, is a constant source of inspiration. The forms of her pieces are influenced by ancient functional ceramics, while their surfaces often echo natural elements such as sea rocks shaped by time and the sea. Elena rarely uses glaze, preferring instead to celebrate the natural character and texture of the clay.
Elena was recently welcomed as a member of Homo Faber.
